Editorial Policy

How Kompozit researches, writes, fact-checks, and updates the technical content published on this site.

Our Mission

Kompozit manufactures protective and decorative coatings for industrial, marine, and architectural applications. We publish technical guidance to help contractors, specifiers, inspectors, and building owners select and apply coating systems correctly. Every article aims to be technically defensible, vendor-neutral on competing chemistries, and practical for real jobsite conditions.

Editorial Standards

Articles published under the Kompozit masthead must meet four standards:

  • Technically defensible against ASTM, ISO, AMPP (NACE/SSPC), and equivalent reference standards.
  • Sourced to primary documentation — published standards, technical data sheets, peer-reviewed literature — rather than secondary blogs.
  • Reviewed by at least one credentialed coatings professional before publication.
  • Free from unverified manufacturer claims, including our own.

Fact-Checking

Every article is fact-checked against primary sources before publication. We cross-reference numerical claims — cure times, VOC limits, abrasion ratings, salt-spray hours, dry-film-thickness ranges — against the relevant ASTM, ISO, or AMPP standard, the original manufacturer technical data sheet, or peer-reviewed literature. Where a claim cannot be independently verified, we say so explicitly. Articles that have completed verified fact-checking display a "Fact checked" badge alongside the reviewer's name and credentials.

Sources We Use

  • Published standards: ASTM International, ISO, AMPP (NACE/SSPC), DIN, JIS.
  • Manufacturer Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Peer-reviewed journals, including Progress in Organic Coatings, Journal of Coatings Technology and Research, and Corrosion Science.
  • Field reports authored by inspectors holding AMPP/NACE CIP credentials.
  • Internal Kompozit laboratory reports — identified explicitly whenever cited.

Author Qualifications

Authors writing technical content for Kompozit hold one or more of the following:

  • A degree in chemistry, materials science, polymer science, or chemical engineering.
  • An AMPP/NACE coatings inspector credential (CIP Level 1 or higher), or an equivalent SSPC certification.
  • A minimum of five years of documented field experience in industrial coatings application, specification, or failure analysis.

Every author's credentials and bio are listed on their author page.

Editorial Review Process

Before publication, each article moves through three stages: (1) technical review by a credentialed reviewer — typically an AMPP-CIP inspector or a Kompozit chemist; (2) copy edit for clarity and consistency; (3) final approval by an editor. Articles covering safety-critical topics — lead encapsulation, confined-space coatings, potable-water linings, food-contact systems — require a second independent technical reviewer.

Corrections Policy

We correct errors promptly and visibly. When an article is corrected, we add a dated note at the bottom of the page describing what changed and why. Substantive corrections — changes that alter meaning, recommendations, or technical data — are noted in the article body. Typographical and grammatical fixes are made silently. To report an error, email help@kompozitusa.com with the article URL and the issue.

Independence and Conflicts of Interest

Kompozit manufactures and sells coatings. We do not allow that commercial interest to bias our technical content. Specifically:

  • Articles that compare chemistries — epoxy vs. polyurethane, zinc-rich vs. inorganic primers, solvent-borne vs. water-borne — describe trade-offs honestly without favoring our own products.
  • We do not name competitor brands disparagingly, and we do not name them at all unless required for technical accuracy.
  • Sponsored or commercial content is labeled clearly and is not produced by the editorial team.
  • Authors disclose any relevant outside affiliations on their author page.

Content Updates

Technical content ages. We review high-traffic articles at least once every twelve months, and immediately when a relevant standard is revised (for example, a new ASTM revision) or when we receive credible feedback that an article is out of date. The "Last updated" date on each article reflects the most recent substantive revision, not minor copy edits.

Use of AI Tools

We use AI tools to assist with background research, transcription, and copy editing. AI-generated text is never published without review and revision by a qualified human author, and any article substantially assisted by AI is held to the same technical, sourcing, and review standards as a fully human-written piece.
